Capturing window, but then pop up window doesn't show .... suggestions?

I folks,

I'm using OBS to make a tutorial about Blender (3D graphics software).

All is well until i pull up the preferences window (separate, floating window) in Blender.

This is not captured! ...... well obviously, it's a new window!

I tried making a new source just for that, but it doesn't seem to work, i guess because the window is closed when i start recording.

Anyone have any suggestions for a fix?

I also tried "display capture" but this is tricky as i can't resize the area because OBS is in the way (looping back on itself), blocking my view of the window i want to resize to!

Doesn't OBS also have a "capture screen area" source, like in Screencast-o-matic, which can be tweaked while the main OBS window is hidden?

Cheers!

Move the OBS window to a secondary monitor, this way it doesn't capture itself. You can also run OBS not maximized and move its window out of the area you want to cut out. Finally, you can create a screenshot of the desktop without OBS, then import this into OBS as image source and use this image to adjust the resizing/cropping settings instead of the real display capture.
