This is really weird so I want to share it here, hopefully someone has had the exact same freakish behaviour and knows what to do!
Example behaviour:
- Open Dead by Daylight, a game that basically maxes out most GPUs on the menu for some reason. Also happens on FFXIV and many more games..
- Add the Game Window to my OBS scene
- Capturing at 60FPS,
- Alt-tab back into the game
- Now capturing at around 15FPS, , that's not even streaming, that's just the local capture
- Even though the game is running at 60FPS
If I stream to twitch.tv and look at inspector.twitch.tv it says everything is fine, because OBS is telling twitch it's uploading 15FPS and it's receiving 15FPS, so it's not like the frames are being dropped or my internet is the issue, OBS is literally only trying to send around 15FPS...
Task manager shows the GPU 3D render is maxed, that's fine, the video encoder is working at 63%, should be fine.
So the hardware is capable, of all of this, it's been fine for years, but in the last few months this bizzaro behaviour has started and I can't see why.
I suspect the same issue is causing my Oculus Quest 2 Link to lag a bit too, so this probably isn't limited to OBS
Specs:
- Windows 10, fully updated
- Ryzen 3600
- RX 580
- 32GB RAM
- 1440p monitor @ 165hz + 1080p monitor @ 75hz
Already tried:
- Windows 10 "Reset This PC"
- reinstall drivers from amd.com
- reinstall drivers from windows update
- windowed mode / borderless windowed mode / fullscreen
