Question / Help Capture device won't output audio specifically when streaming

The last couple times I've tried to stream, my console capture device (The Hauppauge HD PVR 1212) doesn't capture audio, but only when streaming. The audio is definitely unmuted, I've checked multiple times. It will capture in local recordings just fine, but it will not output the device audio to the stream.

I was able to somewhat work around this by monitoring the audio and just having it play back through desktop audio, but obviously this is not ideal.

Stream in question

(timestamped to where the issue is actually occurring, workaround starts around 14:20)

I noticed when making this thread that it seemed like it happened when I restarted the console while it was open in obs, but I made a local record that seems to disprove that, or at least show it's not the sole cause.

Edit> Advanced Audio Properties

Check which tracks your devices are assigned to.

You can record multiple tracks.

You can only *stream* one track.

So for a setup to handle both, you need to have at least one track with all the devices you want in the stream included, and the streaming settings have to be set to output that track.

That would suggest that your capture device lost sync when you rebooted the console and did not pick up the audio afterwards. Windows often has issues when audio devices disconnect and reconnect during a session. You may need to enable/disable the capture device during the session, or power cycle the capture device. Sometimes, though, there are some glitches that can't be recovered without stopping a stream to restart OBS.

Why it would lose the audio for the stream and NOT the recording, I have no idea-- you've got all your devices on all tracks, so...
