Capture card audio quality gets worse when I plug in a mic

I’ve been having a problem with my capture card audio sounding pretty distorted muffled and cracking. I just figured out that when I disconnect my external microphone the audio quality is perfectly fine. So is there any work around to still have my microphone connected without compromising my capture cards audio quality.
