Question / Help Cant record in high quality

I finally gave up on SimpleScreenRecorder for many reasons, and im now trying to use OBS. It seems like it works much better, but I can't figure out how to configure it correctly. There are very few guides to using it in linux, and seemingly none that answer any of my questions.

My problem is that when I record, the video just looks like it has been heavily compressed. I tried changing the bitrate, recording format, fps, downscale filter, some thing in the advanced settings etc, and nothing changed the quality.

My current settings are: Output mode: simple

Recording path: (on my ssd)

recording format: mp4

Video bitrate: 20000

audio bitrate: 256

automatically reconnect is on

Retry delay: 10

Maximum retries: 20

enable advanced encoder settings is off

Sample rate: 44.1khz

Channels: mono

Renderer: OpenGL

video adapter (there is nothing here and i can't change that)

base resolution: 1920x1080

scaled resolution: 1920x1080

downscale filter: lanczos

fps: 60

audio buffering time: 1000

color format: NV12

YUV color space: 709

YUV color range: partial

My specs are as follows:

gtx 970 windforce

i7 4790k

8gb ram

Ubuntu 14.04

Ask me for anything that i did not mention

Have you tried recording in FLV instead of MP4? I had the same problem, and the answer was changing the recording format to FLV and then making sure it worked well in 30fps before changing to 60fps.

My system is not quite as beefy as yours, so I'm only able to encode at 30fps for now (until NVENC support is added), but the videos look perfect. (For an example, my first video recorded using OBS for Linux can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZ81Obc9h_g)
