hi im having problems recording 2 separate audio tracks.
using a game capture card for game video andsound.
using my mobile with iVCam for web video and sound.(its wireless goes through router.)
i can record both at same time onto 1 track.
i can record both individually onto 1 track.
but if i try to record both onto separate track at the same time it only records the game.

have seen on another thread that blue tooth mic causes problems?
can it be my webcam/mobile phone setup?
have followed a few youtube instructional videos but still wont work.

thanks

You have to switch between the tracks in your media player. Media players will play one track at a time only. They will not mix tracks for output.

Multitrack recording in OBS is for postprocessing. If you intend to postprocess sources separately, and if you intend to do your audio mixing after the recording, you want multitrack recording. In this case, you extract your multiple audio tracks with some audio editor, process and mix them according to your needs, then replace the 2 separate tracks with the mixed track you created.

If you don't need this, just mix all the audio sources within OBS and create the video with only 1 track with the mixed audio only.

It depends on what your son wants to do. Let him start with the OBS-internal live mixing, if just creating a video is what he wants. But if he wants to really control and postprocess the stuff he recorded, you might go with multitrack audio recording. It really depends. Childs in this age can be really ambitious, or just do one thing (record a video) and expect everything else to work automatically.

at the moment only need separate audio so i can adjust volume between the two sources. after recording.
have done a few videos but its hard to adjust and get the volume correct when recording, one feed usual ends up overpowering the other.
so im hoping it will work better sorting volume out after.

thanks for your help

If you record a voice along with some computer audio, and you need to adjust the voice volume afterwards, you can tell the speaker (probably your young son) to take heed of the recording - that's a lesson to learn for someone who records voices. Speak even, not too loud and not too silent, and definitely don't suddenly shout.

You can even out this a bit with filters. To apply a filter to some audio source, right-click the corresponding audio source in the audio mixer dock of OBS and choose Filters.
Apply a compressor filter to the mic source, and after that apply a limiter filter. With the compressor higher volume is lowered, so this is used to lower someone who is usually speaking normally but sometimes louder or even shouting. Set the mic level so that if he speaks normally, it's balanced to the other audio. If he speaks louder, the compressor kicks in and keeps his voice low.
And after that you might add a limiter. If the speaker suddenly really shouts out loud, this will prevent clipping even the compressor cannot mitigate.

In case you are fighting with background noise being picked up by your mic, consider a noise gate filter (applied as 1st filter) or as alternative an expander filter, which would be placed between the compressor and the limiter.

These filters are explained here: https://obsproject.com/wiki/Filters-Guide#audio-device-filters
