I want to talk with my friend while playing but I don't want the recording to pick up us in discord. I can mute myself just fine but the problem is my friends audio is also mixed with the game audio. They are both picked up in desktop audio and it's probably because I use the same output device (my headphones) for discord and the game. I need to know if there is a fix

There is not in OBS, but you can use Voicemeeter or VAC to do this. Just Google for 'exclude audio in OBS'. There are plenty of tutorials out there, but we cannot provide support for third-party software here.
I'd also caution you to consider the effect that will have on your stream. People generally don't like being shut out of half of a conversation, and streams where the streamer's attention is split, instead of being 100% on their stream, generally do not do well if you intend to grow or build any kind of community.
