Bug Report Can't cut/trim OBS .mp4 output

Whenever I screencap, i am not able to cut or trim the output .mp4 file with any software I have tried (incl. Quicktime, MPEG Streamclip, DaVinci Resolve, etc.). The furthest i got was trimming a file with Quicktime, and on my computer it looked like it was actually trimmed. When I uploaded that file to my website though, the video was displayed in full length again, as if I didn't trim it... I am on macOS and have confirmed that issue for multiple versions of the OS. I am using the x264 Codec and I have read that reinstalling the Codecs might be a solution, but idk how that is possible on macOS...

Thanks in advance!

Nothing to do with codecs.

Most Mac programs aren't going to "trim" an existing file, although I believe QuickTime Player X does do this.

In most cases the editing software (like Resolve) will be expecting you to import a media file into a project, add portions of that media file to a timeline, and then export a new file, which you would then upload, rather than modifying the original file.

maybe i need to elaborate more on the problem i am having: when trying to trim the .mp4 in quicktime, the trimming works (as in the preview in QT is trimmed), until i try to save it and quicktime tells me that it couldn't finish the process. In MPEG Streamclip, which has always been very reliable for me, i can actually save that file and MPEG Streamclip shows a smaller file size and length in the output, but when I open the output file (be it in finder, windows explorer or a web browser), it is at full length and file size again. I only face this issue with mp4 files generated by OBS – all these procedures for trimming work flawlessly with any other mp4 fiel from any other source, hence the reason why people suggested that obs' encoder might be damaged/corrupted on my machine.

So, what would you suggest me to do if I want to, say, cut the first 5 seconds of a screencapture from OBS?
