Question / Help Can't capture ReCore, other Windows Store / Metro Apps

I posted this in the standard OBS help forum and it was suggested I try asking for help here instead.

I am unable to use Game Capture or Window Capture to capture any 64 bit applications. Most recently, I downloaded ReCore, which is a 64 bit game, and it will not capture.

  • This occurs in both 32 bit and 64 bit OBS, as well as OBS Studio
  • Running as administrator does not help
  • Window Capture Compatibility mode does not help
  • Happens with both CPU and GPU processed recording
All 32 bit games, Firefox 32 Bit and Photoshop 32 Bit have been tested to run fine.
64 bit programs such as Chrome, Windows Explorer, Microsoft Edge and now ReCore all do not work.

Specifically in Studio, the preview window of both Game Capture and Window Capture just show a black screen, with my mouse still be captured. Changing the target window to a 32 bit program will instantly show the preview for that program, switching back to a 64 bit program again shows the black screen.

Any ideas on how I can get 64 bit programs to capture?

Chrome captures fine with window capture if you disable hardware acceleration.

Edge can't be window or game captured yet because it's a windows store app, not because it's 64-bit.

If ReCore is a windows store app, then that's why it doesn't window or game capture either.

World of Warcraft, Starcraft 2, Heroes of the Storm, Hearthstone, Overwatch and PlanetSide 2 all capture fine regardless of the bitness of OBS even though they're 64-bit by default.

Of those games you listed, I have Hearthstone, but it is showing as a 32 bit program for me.

Regardless, you appear to be correct, I tested by disabling hardware acceleration in Chrome, and running the 64 bit version of Photoshop, and both appear to be working fine.

So then with that much understood, how can one capture a Windows Store/ Metro App, without relying on Monitor Capture?

(Updated Thread Title to reflect what you have shown me)

You simply can't yet.

There are methods, but Jim hasn't had the time to look into them yet. Too much of a priority to get feature parity with classic into studio first.

Gotcha, that's a bummer, but good to know, thank you! Is there some kind of issue tracker system where things like this would be kept track of, or should I just post the request as Feedback/Suggestion?

Awesome, do you happen to have a link? I'd like to monitor it, and I can't seem to find it in the list.
