Canon 80D - Lost Connection

Hi All,

macOS Sonoma ( 14.1 )
Apple M3 Pro
36GB Ram

I recently upgraded OBS to Version 30.2.2. I do not remember what Version I had before the upgrade. Since the upgrade, my Canon 80D no longer connects.

I know this is mainly coincedence, but nothing else was changed on my syetem. Is it possible that some bit of OBS is keeping my Canon from connecting?

Thanks - V

Apple has been adjusting firewall settings with updates as of late.
So first thing to double check is - OBS Studio (still) has permissions to the appropriate input sources (camera in this case)?

Hopefully you are NOT using USB, as the 80D (which I have) is only USB2 so low resolution over USB... Canon recommends HDMI output/capture... in which case you are checking that OBS Studio has access to your HDMI capture device

Thanks!

I did more checking and other apps also do not work with the Canon and the EOS Webcam Utility, including Canon's own Utility. I can connect to the EOS Utility 3 app, and am able to remote view.

I am using USB, as I can't get a completely clean HDMIOutput from the 80D.

Yup, Operating System related, not OBS Studio.

There is a trick to getting clean HDMI out on the 80D... (possible, as I looked it up 4+ years ago and got it to work on my 80D, but from old memory, possibly not worth it depending on use case??). No, I don't recall the details... but from a very vague memory (which could be completely wrong, so up to you to look into) is that you have to turn off Auto focus, and a few other settings changes to get clean HDMI out on the 80D
