Cannot update OBS - Waiting for OBS to exit ...

I'm trying to update OBS to OBS Studio 26.0.2. OBS closes and a window pops up with a progress bar that shows the message "Waiting for OBS to exit ..." Another thread suggested deleting the OBS folder in %temp% but there is no OBS folder.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Not exactly the same, but I've had instances where I would get a popup that said OBS was still running when I thought it wasn't, i.e. I had shut it down. Check in the Task Manager, scroll down and you may find stray OBS items under Background Processes that you can "End Task".

Same thing is happening right now for me. Says this:

I had the same thing and the fix is you have to go to task manager and press "O", It will automatically show you all the process running with O in the starting. By that I found that some process called "obs64" was running. I turned it off and the update has started from the obs updater. Hope it helps <3

You can force obs to close by opening the commands prompt (search cmd in the start menu) and using the command "taskkill /f /im obs64.exe". For some reason it wouldn't appear in task manager but it did using the tasklist command that's how I got the name of the process. It might be called obs32.exe if running the 32-bit version.

its because OBS studio is not shutdown properly, go to task manager and find OBS studio, not OBS updates and kill that process then the download will resume.
