Cannot see my desktop in the preview screen.

Hello everyone I hope all of you are having a good day.
I have pushed every single button on this program trying to figure this out and it just eludes me.

In the preview screen that shows my WebCam how do I get the screen to show my desktop and not the OBS app that disappears into infinity. I want to see my desktop I don't want to see the app in the preview screen. Where is the button to push to change this or is there a plug-in I have to get or find to make this work ?

This is all I see in my preview window and of course the black square on the left-hand corner is my WebCam that's turned off but how do I turn off the app to where I can see the full desktop ?????
I don't want to see the app in the preview window I want to see the desktop.

It's time to move on and uninstall..... Sadly going to get any help here.....

lol do you perhaps have your obs maximized on your desktop? if not then we need to see what the properties are as to what its tied to. we need to see what i showed in the pic below and the options listed under capture method

What you're seeing is called the Droste Effect. It's because you're capturing the monitor that OBS is shown on, just like pointing a video camera at a TV showing what the camera is seeing.
Either capture a different monitor, move OBS to a different monitor, or minimize OBS after you start recording. When using a Monitor Capture, OBS captures EVERYTHING ON THE MONITOR. It can't ignore itself, if it is on said monitor.
