Question / Help Can OBS be used to enhance video tutoring? Can it be streamed to Skype?

Hello. I'm quite new to OBS. I understand what it's meant to be used for. I'm interested in all of OBS's features for the purposes of enhancing my video tutoring. I'd like to be able to share my screen with my student/s during a lesson and have the convenience that OBS provides with switching between different windows, adding animations, switching to webcam, etc.

Is it possible to stream to a video chat software like Skype with OBS? If not, is there another software that would be more appropriate for my needs?

I'm an editor and when I have a coaching client, I do something that sounds similar to what you're describing. I actually use Zoom for those jobs. it's an all-in-one remote meeting software. Here's some of the features I like best from it:
  • Client audio can be either VoIP (like Skype, but on the Zoom platform) or a phone number is provided to call into the meeting.
  • Screen sharing
    • You can select a specific program to share (good for keeping everything else private) or an entire monitor screen
    • You or your client can control the shared scene with permission (i.e. if my client is sharing their screen with me, I can request permission to take control to show them what I'm trying to describe)
    • If you're wanting to share video, the screen share can also capture the audio portion of the video
  • Webcam optional
The free version has limited minutes before it just cuts off use, or there's a $14.99 monthly subscription fee.

Hope that information is helpful.

But... Skype can already be used to share your screen...
So can Google Hangouts btw...

What does OBS do for you that these apps do not?
