Can not see camera in OBS using HDMI & capture card, but I can see camera in OBS with USB connection using the canon webcam utility.

I have a Canon M50 camera, I have downloaded the canon webcam utility onto my laptop, when I plug my camera in with the USB cable, in OBS I see the canon webcam utility camera and can use it. But if I try to use a capture card and connect the camera with an HDMI cable to the capture card then to my laptop. In OBS I do not see the camera. I see the Canon webcam utility camera, but if I select it then there is no images to display, it shows it as disconnected. What do I need to do to see the camera if I use the HDMI cable and the capture card? Thanks
