Question / Help Can I use x265 encoder in obs studio?

I have an r9 380x. But that card only supports AMD h.264. It doesn't support the new H.265 hevc encoder.
I've been reading a bit online and found an x265 encoder available in handbrake and VLC media player.
Is it even possible to use that in obs studio? Thanks

For recording, you need to use custom ffmpeg output mode, and it's not supported so you're on your own figuring it out
For streaming, it's not possible to use because streaming protocols don't allow it.

Harold, so why should i stop saving directly to mp4?

Because a non-graceful shutdown of the recording process will render an mp4 corrupt.
A corrupt mp4 is compatible with absolutely nothing

yeah I got that, but to be real here, I don't think anyone uses OBS for some top-tier movie production. Not to mention, in my use case, the crashes have become almost non-existent through the updates, so really you don't have to worry about that.

"almost" isn't fully. You're not going to want to save to mp4.
I see the precautions, but it really isn't worth the extra trouble, considering some video editors don't support other file types. nothing anyone uses obs studio for is so critical that it can't be easily re-recorded.
