Question / Help Camera Connection Troubles after Reopening OBS

Good day,

Is anyone else experiencing issues with their camera connection after turning off their camera or closing OBS and reopening?

My set up is:
Camera --> HDMI Micro to HDMI cable --> Blackmagic Studio Mini ultra recorder --> thunderbolt 2 cable --> thunderbolt 2 to 3 apple converter --> MacBook Pro 2018.

The issue is:
Whenever I close OBS or turn off my camera and then attempt to record/stream again OBS does not immediately pull up the camera feed. The settings are saved in the "Scenes" and "Sources" area of the software but the live feed is black. Sometimes I have to disconnect the camera cable and reconnect at the camera while others i have to disconnect at the computer, or the HDMI capture device, and still others I have to change my HDMI clean settings from the camera in the camera menu's; still other times it seems as though to get the feed to work I have to remove the source (or scene) from OBSE and set things up as if starting for the first time. I have yet to determine what the pattern is but overall I believe I am missing something with OBS or my camera as I expect to be able to turn things on and everything be ready to go.

What am I doing wrong?

I have three cameras which all experience the same infuse: a Sony RX100 mk vii, a Sony RX100 mk iii, and a Canon G7X mk iii.

I have set up the "source" within the scene by adding the "blackmagic device" option. Should I be using the "video capture device" instead? Is there a settings save function i'm unaware of?

Any recommendations would be greatly helpful and appreciated.

Thank you!

Please note: I have three of these black magic devices for three separate cameras across two different MacBook Pros and am experiencing the same issue with all three cameras and all three capture devices. So I'm certain this is something to do with the OBS software.

Update: When trying to add a "video capture device" option in a scene the Blackmagic studio device is detected by OBS however when setting it up nothing happens. I believe this is due to the fact that this capture card can capture SDI as well as HDMI but defaults to SDI...when selecting the "black magic device" (see image) I can change those settings to ensure the feed from the HDMI side of the device. However, I am still unsure as to why OBS has issues pulling the feed from the capture card and this happens even when I first set up the source within a scene. That is to say, if starting fresh with OBS and setting up the camera for the first time I still have connection issues with the feed. Am I doing something wrong?

quick edit: it's either OBS or the Blackmagic device. The device does work and once working doesn't kick out. However, it takes multiple attempts to get the feed to come through and does not reconnect the next time I'm wanting to stream.
