Question / Help Buying Elgato Capture Card for 'OBS 0.13.2 64Bit' ?

Hey Guys!

please excuse my english, I am from Germany.

I am actually thinking about buying a Capture card. I am using OBS 0.13.2 64bit on a second streaming PC (using Windows 8, probably upgrading to Windows 10 soon).

I want to buy Elgato Game Capture HD60 Pro.

I have read that there are several issues with OBS 0.13.2 64 bit, as delayed audio problems and driver issues. But I also read that there was a very recent update which fixed some problems.

Is there actually somebody using this capture card with the newest OBS STUDIO 64bit version and can tell me that it will properly work or not?

I saw that here are some elgato support guys around... maybe they can tell me more?

Delayed audio is completely unavoidable with usb 2.0 capture devices such as the elgato externals.

The elgato software is extremely picky about settings and installation order.

well as far as i know the elgato game capture HD 60 pro is no external card... so the question still remains if anybody has experiences with that card and the newest obs studio version... (I dont have experiences with capture cards in general)

I want to buy a 1080p 60fps capture card with low latency... AND i still want to use the newest obs studio.

I have quite a bit of experience with Elgato products, I've used all 3 of the capture cards.

The HD60 PRO, the internal one that connects via PCI slot, has almost no delay. It really is a great device. That being said, I've had several issues with it and OBS, but keep in mind my PC is a bit of an anomaly and many people have had much better luck than I.

Never, under any circumstance, change the HD60 pro's resolution to anything other than 1080p within OBS. Leave it at 1080, and then adjust the entire scene. If you change it, you will run into an issue where trying to change any other settings, and even sometimes it just running, will cause the card to freeze up, and then cause OBS to crash when you remove it. The problem with this is that because it saves your resolution every time, you have to wipe OBS-studio from your system and reinstall and set everything back up. This may be something that was specific to me, but even coming right from Elgato they say to always leave it at 1080, and you shouldn't have any issues. Hopefully they fix that in the future.

Other than that, just make sure your PC can handle it. I'm having trouble right now and mine should be able to handle it no problem so your mileage may vary. Good luck.

Okay I guess my streaming PC (CPU intel core i7 3770, 120gb SSD, 8gb RAM DDR3, nVidia Geforce GT610)
could handle it, but I am not sure if streaming in 1080p will be a good idea for a non-twitch-partner? I would stream in 2500 bitrates and in 1080p. My upload can handle up to 4000 mb/s. But whats with viewers? Can they still watch... I never streamed in 1080p... it doesnt work with my current setting (without the streaming PC)

Do you have any issues like viewers who cant watch your stream because your settings are too high, or anything like that?

I have a lot of experience with 2 pc systems still and also the elgato hd60 pro. 1080p30fps should work ok. But you shouldnt go above wit fps with a nonepartnered stream and even not using more than 2500-3000kbit/s upload. I tried a lot of things and realize with my second pc that everything above is really sad for viewers. I gope you dont play fast egoshooters. Than i would stay to 720p , maybe 60fps if you play fast games you want to let run smooth. But remember that the blurrong is higher than if you move fast ingame. If you want stream in 1080p60fps in a decent quality and watchable for almost all viewers. You have to switch too youtube gaming. Where you could use at least around 8000-9000~ kbit/s for a decent quality. If you would have a better connection. Another point with settings on 1080p60fps. It cost almost for me my complete cpu usage and i using in my streaming pc an i7 4790k oc to 4,4 ghz so i dont know hiw it works for you with this cpu you use. Just a tipp. I wouldnt really using a lower cpu preset than veryfast with your streaming pc. Alone the capturecard need ~2× more resources than normal game capture or screen capture. And i didnt see really after a lot of tests a big different between veryfast and faster or fast. I have no experience with windows 10 in streaming. I using it just for my gaming pc. But windows 8.1 works fine for the streaming pc

okay danke... also wenn ihr sagt, dass ich bei dem neuen OBS keine sorge wegen kompatibilität bzgl elgato hd60pro und den treibern machen brauch, dann würde ich mir die kaufen.

ich würde mit dem streaming pc dann natürlich auch experimentieren und die presets durchgehen, die power sollte der rechner ja haben. hatte nur sorge, dass es u.U. gar nicht geht.

Im Grunde würde ich auch gerne auf 720p bleiben. 1080 klingt zwar verlockend, aber zuschauerfreundlich auf twitch ist es leider nicht und die beste internet verbindung hab ich auch nicht. möchte nur in guter qualität streamen ohne das das spiel oder der stream ruckelt und evtl die bitrates auf 2500 oder 2000 lassen und trotzdem ein smooth aussehendes bild haben (daher evtl middle preset nutzen o.ä.)

Also nochmal zur Absicherung:

elgato hd60pro + OBS STUDIO 0.13.2 (64 bit) + WIN 8 (ggf. 10) stellt mittlerweile keine Probleme mehr dar?

windows 8.1 mit elgato hd60pro und obs studio neueste version hat bei mir keinerlei probleme mit streamen. Jedoch wie bereits erwähnt die capturecard ist um einiges mehr resourcen fressend in obs, als wenn du normale game capture oder screen capture verwendest. habe das schon alles ausprobiert. also erwarte nicht das du sicherlich dein preset auf medium schalten kannst. windows 10 funktionier gut fürs gaming. Für streaming kann ich nicht wirklich viel hergeben, da ich es noch nicht getestet habe.

Ich hab mir die Elgato Pro jetzt gekauft und in den Streaming-Rechner verbaut. Leider gibt es noch ein paar Probleme bzw. Wissenslücken... Oder sogar beides... Vielleicht könnt ihr mir ja weiterhelfen :D


Dort läuft Windows 10 und ich hab die Treiber und Software installiert. Ein HDMI Kabel führt von der Grafikkarte des Gaming Rechners in den IN-HDMI des StreamingRechners(mit Elgato). Somit kann ich auf dem Streaming Rechner in der Elgato Software das Bild des Gaming Rechners sehen.

Die Frage ist wie bekomme ich das nun verknüpft mit OBS. Ich habe auf dem Gaming-Rechner die Elgato als Videoaufnahmegerät hinzugefügt. Aber ich sehe nur schwarzes Bild. Daraufhin habe ich aus meinem Gaming-Monitor ein HDMI Kabel in den HDMI Out Slot der Elgato gesteckt, aber dann sagt mir Obs (NO DEVICE FOUND)...

Ich habe leider kaum OBS STUDIO Tutorials mit der Elgato Hd PRO gefunden.

Die Frage ist, wie muss ich das ganze in OBS integrieren und woran erkenne ich, dass ich es richtig gemacht habe?

Sorry, aber ich blick noch nicht ganz durch... vielleicht könnt ihr mir weiterhelfen :D

Hier nochmal in Kurzform wie das Setting bei mir derzeit ist

Ich habe es jetzt nochmal getestet (hatte auch schon die Treiber gelöscht und neu installiert / neu gestartet, wie an anderer Stelle im Forum empfohlen).

Elgato HDMI IN - Grafikkarte HDMI
Elgato HDMI OUT - Monitor HDMI

OBS (0.13.2, 64bit. Elgato Driver 64bit neuste Version, habe nach Neuinstallation sogar die Beta installiert)
Videogerät hinzugefügt: ELGATO (standard settings, nichts verändert)
Spiel gestartet.

Du musst bei deinem gaming pc deinen monitor duplizieren. Dann wird dein bild auf dem streaming rechner angezeigt in obs. Denke daran das alle elgato drivers installiert sind. Dann solltest du die quelle bei geräten in obs auch finden.

Hdmi out von elgato brauchst du eigentlich nur für konsolen. Wenn deine gaming grafikkarte 2 anschlüsse für monitor (dvi/hdmi-out) und elgato (hdmi-out) sollte es schon gehen

okay hab die desktopaufnahme des pcs nun auf dem streaming rechner in obs... jetzt zwei doofe fragen, die ich halt nicht aufm schirm hatte... mein mikrofon und meine webcam muss ich nun auf dem streamingrechner anschließen und installieren etc? :D
