[bug report] Pressing SHIFT interrupts Push-To-Talk

Dear forum, dear developers

I am plagued by a very annoying problem - I think it is a bug.

Whenever I use Push-To-Talk, pressing Shift interrupts it immediately. I do not have any action set on the Shift key.
This is especially annoying in shooters where you often have to press Shift to run.

Can you please do something about this or offer me a solution?

Unfortunately, I am absolutely forced to use Push-To-Talk.

Thank you very much.

Kind regards

Michael

Dear developers

I really hope that this topic does not go down, because it is extremely critical in my case.

Can it be that this behavior is only there since recently?

Because I don't remember this problem occurring in previous OBS versions.

I would like to add that I too am reproducing this problem in build 28.0.3. If you are pressing and holding the shift key while pressing your PTT key, OBS will not trigger your mic. As far as I know this never was an issue in previous versions.

After a few days of being frustrated i think i figured it out. Hopefully this helps you solve your issue.

You can go to Settings > Hotkeys > scroll until you find your audio input for your PTT > click the plus icon for push-to-talk > Hold or press shift and the button you want for push-to-talk. This way you have your push to talk button and another one under it with Shift + push to talk button.

It takes a bit of finesse but it seems like it can be done.

Is there any fix for this? It's still an ongoing issue and there is no fix. Can this get devs attention please?

Scroll up to SmashT's answer. :-)

To summarize, assign both <key> and <shift+key> to do the same thing. (likewise for any other modifiers you might use, intentionally or by accident)
Because OBS sees it has having let go of the original assignment and pressing the other one instead.

Note that this still causes an interruption in the mic input. Repeatedly tap Shift as you speak a whole sentence and listen back to the recording. Proper solution: https://obsproject.com/forum/threads/problem-with-push-to-talk-button.168769/post-621899
