Question / Help Buffering and 2 computer setup

Hi guys,

I've 2 questions about streaming.

  • #1 - Why have i buffering using H264 Amd Encoder (R9 280x) ? I set 3k5 bitrate, CBR, main profile, 1080p/30 and when i stream my FF14 or H1Z1 games, it's a bit laggy, pixelized and there is a lot of buffering. No image loss, 5% CPU Usage and my game (IG) is quite smooth. Is NVENC better for this ? (GTX 1080 inc) Do i need to buy a new CPU now (i5 3570k to i7 7700k) and make a h264 CPU Encoding even if it could be good enough now ? A 2PC Streaming setup maybe (#2 related).

  • #2 - I found a 4 x Intel Xeon 6Core E7450 2.40GHz (total amount of 48 Threads) 64GB RAM deal and i wanted to use it as a NAS and Rendering Computer/RTMP server (EXSi with FreeNas for NAS and Ubuntu "server" with FFMPEG or somethink like for encoding) but i don't know if it'll be able to render it with a good quality, can you help me with this ?

Thx for all,

JeremySmn

EDIT : I have at least 805 Mbps down (HDD bottleneck) and 240 Mbps up.

Hi,

post and obs log once the issues happened, how to do this is a sticky on the board. Presume you mean buffering on the steam also not on the pc?

No image loss, 5% CPU Usage and my game (IG) is quite smooth, is this 5% in the obs status window? as I expect in windows this is alot higher if you are using a i53570k

Yes, it's higher because of the game but OBS doesn't impact my games (at least with AMD VCE encoder).

# Presume you mean buffering on the steam also not on the pc?

The buffering is on the stream yes.

# post and obs log once the issues happened

I'll edit my thread when i come back home.

For the 48 Threads computer, do you have an idea ?

ACE will do the encoding but there is some work for the cpu to do for the stream though alot less than x264. If the cpu is close already to the max this could case some buffering. It could be bandwidth related also.

Streaming is best used with x264 software over x264 gpu especially with low bitrate. Once we can see the log it will be more clear. also post your upload speed.

The E7450 will be able to encode 720p but it will need a gpu that can scale and a capture card. It might work out cheaper to upgrade your current cpu.

I'll check it coming back home.

I don't think so (if you're talking LAN/WAN Bandwitdh). 1Gbps LAN (Computer -> CAT6a -> Gigabit TPLink Switch -> CAT7 in wall -> TPLink Gigabit Routeur -> Cat6a -> WAN Router)
I've a 805/240Mbps connection.

Yeah so i'll need a CPU Encoding hardware, a better CPU or a dedicated computer.

I'll post it as soon as i can.

I've an other 280x but I'll think about this.

EDIT : I was thinking, if i setup a 2 computer streaming setup without capture card, is the i5 3570k will be able to take the load ?
