Both my computers drop frames in OBS recordings!

I've had an issue with OBS studio for years. My recordings all have periodic dropped frames. I was confident I could figure it out, but after getting a brand new PC with top hardware… I STILL HAVE THE SAME ISSUE! I can’t believe it.

I’ve tried every OBS setting and all recordings have the exact same problem.

I record at 60 fps but every so often, the recording will drop frames. It drops every 3rd frame for about 10 seconds, then resumes to normal.

I’m not kidding when I say I’ve tested every possible option, every windows on or off option (game mode ect) and every option inside of obs.

I can’t figure it out. Some help would be appreciated! (uploaded my latest log, hopfully this is the correct type of file.)

On another note, all my recordings have about 5 frames of audio lag. It’s not much but it’s still annoying while editing.

Your log is truncated, there's no encoding session but you probably have rendering lag/GPU overload.

On your next test, try running only (1) monitor @ 240HZ, with the other @ 60HZ. This will reduce load for the test, might even clear things up. After you stop the recording, close/re-open OBS & post the previous log if things didn't improve.

12900k/3090 here, looking at Tekken 8.

I would be starting my testing on my rig with that game in High/frame-rate capped @ 80-100. Both monitors @ 60HZ.

Thanks for the reply. I've recorded with a single monitor too and had the same issue. I'm certain is unrelated to my monitors refresh rate and it's something I wouldn't like to keep changing anyway.

What's weird is that I can record for an hour, no issues but eventually the skipped frames will occur for about 20 seconds.

I'll post my next test, I'll make sure it includes the encoding.

What do you mean high/frame-rate capped? Tekken is capped at 60. You mean obs recording at 100?

Start with these instructions, it is impossible to offer any advice without this information

Yep, need at least a log with an encoding session or better yet a complete log to see what's going on.

Like I said I looked at some performance numbers for Tekken 8. Our systems should perform similarly, I wouldn't be running any of my monitors @ 240 while recoding it with OBS. Just wasting resources.

There's a benifit to running 240hz even if the game run at a lower frame rate. If I run my monitor at 60hz, there's a massive increase of latency. I thought I might be imagining it so I used that nvidia latency overlay. Read 5ms at 240hz and 30 at 60hz. It's confusing.

The frame drops occur on any game/recording too. Marvel rivals at 240fps in game. 60 fps recording. Skipped frames.

No rendering lag in there & your encoding settings look OK but the log is still truncated. All that was stopped was replay buffer. The recording also needs to be stopped before uploading the log.

I'm not buying it, high refresh rates place more load on your system & what you describe sure sounds like over-load to me.

Not sure why it’s truncated as you said. I’ll try again. I’ll do the test with marvel rivals or overwatch. I play at 240hz. A lot of people play at high refresh rates, even 360. I just find it hard to believe that my refresh rate is the overloading factor here when it’s normal.

Not following directions that were given above by me & the forum mod resulted in the truncated log.

I'm not sure exactly what is wrong since you have provided little info to this point. Maybe that newer driver is causing issues, I wouldn't know as I won't install the new drivers (they suck) & am still running driver 366.36. Anyway, send me a PM if you want help troubleshooting.
