Question / Help Black screen with Game Capture

I'm having an issue where the game capture source is not recording the game or displaying the game in the preview panel. What's curious is that when I go into properties for the game capture source the preview on that screen is displaying live feed from the game. It doesn't, however, seem to be translating over into the main preview screen or being saved to the recording file.

I've read the PSA on the Windows Anniversary Update, but none of the indicators it mentions that would likely be in my log files if this was the issue are in my log files. Is there something else that might be causing it?

Currently I'm recording using the Window Capture source, and that's working perfectly normally.

The attached file is from my attempt to record with the Game Capture source.

You are on a old version, please update.
Either directly select the game in game capture or use the hotkey feature, you need to update for that.

Updated to 0.16.2. The problem persists and neither selecting the game in game capture or using the hotkey fixes it.

I've attached the logfile from my most recent attempt.

According to that log it captured just fine, remember that fullscreen games do not render when you alt+tab out of them.

Appreciate the quick response. I'm a little stumped now though as the finished recording has no video just a black screen.

I do alt+tab every so often during recordings, but I've tested again now both with alt+tab and without and the result is the same.

The issue only seems to be in the preview panel and the end recording, and even then only with the Game Capture source input. It is displaying, curiously enough, the footage which should be recorded in the properties tab of Game Capture source.

I'm having the same problem. It shows the window I want to capture in the properties section for my source, and it shows what should be on the stream, but the stream is a black screen. I am monitoring OBS on a second monitor and the screen remains black. I have set up a youtube live stream and monitored it from a separate computer and the live stream only shows a black screen. The audio is fine. I tried setting the window to be captured, hotkey etc.

I've switched from the multiplatform release to the classic release and everything works fine on the same settings.

What kind of graphics card do you guys have? Try going for those settings in the game and see how it works.

For some reason on my computer (like Dolphin emulator for example) you can't use OpenGL because it'll give you a black screen, try doing a Direct3D version of the game and see if that works. If not, then I don't know what else would work.

The graphics cards I have are Intel (VGA only) and Nvidia Graphics Card.

I might try the classic version too in that case and see if that works.

Although, saying that, I am managing to record what I need to record. I just can't do it through the game capture source. So, right now it's not a pressing issue at least. I'd just like to see it resolved before it does become a pressing issue.

I've a GeForce GTX 980. How do you choose to launch a game with either OpenGL or Direct3D? I've known some games where they've given different executables depending on whether you want to run on different version numbers of DirectX but I'm not familiar with switching between OpenGL and Direct3D.
