Question / Help Black Screen trying to capture Internet Browser using Window Capture!

Hey guys So, here is a really strange situation. I just got a Dedicated streaming PC built and running with an Avermedia Capture Card, the c985 to be exact. Anyways, Before I was using a one PC setup, and I was able to successfully use the window capture feature to capture a google chrome tab. I built my own type of notification type thing like twitchalerts that I was using. Anyways now that I got all my scenes setup on the streaming PC, everything works except for capturing my google chrome browser, it shows a black screen. I tried using internet explorer and it showed the address bar but a white screen, It looks Like I can use it to capture a folder, or even teamspeak works. But any sort of browser and it don't work.

So before you ask have I googled it, I made sure to thoroughly google the issue before posting, here is what I found so far. Most of the issues posted seem to be about using game capture. I haven't found to many issues posted about using window capture. Anyways I hoped that the issue could still be fixed so I read into the game source Issues, and allot of the times it was solved by opening as an administrator or enabling some sort of antihack, but window capture doe's not show this. I did however try opening as admin and no luck.

Second, I seen people suggest making sure that they're graphics card is set to the correct one, apparently most laptops have two GPUS and was causing issues. I took a look into this even though I own a desktop, and I only see my GTX 580. So I don;t think this helps.

Third I seen people suggest going into the NVIDIA control panel and changing some 3D settings, I looked in there and from what I could tell everything was ok, but not 100%

I think that was about it, Anyways I wasn't really able to pinpoint any solutions, I find it strangely odd it works on my gaming PC perfectly fine but does not work on my streaming PC. Both are running Windows 10. Before I forget here is a copy of the logs.

Anyone have any insight or some sort of fix to this issue?

Capturing Chrome works OK for me, Edge doesn't though. I'm not really sure what is causing your problem to be honest but I was wondering as you have built your own alerts tool could you run it through a Browser Source rather than using Windows Capture. I have a couple of local html files that I include in my scene and I just load them up as Browser Sources which works great.

I tried that. Unfortunately the way my alert works is not like twitch alerts. Basically it only spins to the one person viewing the URL. For example if you where to visit my URL and I clicked the alert it would only show it for me and not you. So if I use browser source I only get a static image. Seems the only way to do it is with window source but it don't seem to work on this pc

OK so can you confirm for me which Browsers work and which don't, sorry I got a bit confused about which ones were working and which weren't :-)

It seems like if I use the window capture. It will not capture any browser. However it could capture my teamspeak window and could also capture any folders I hat open. For example if I had a my pictures folder open I could select it and it would display that folder window.

But using gooe it is a pure black screen and windows explorer showed a white screen.

OK got you no Browser works, Chrome shows you a black screen IE shows you a white screen. I think I recreated your problem. I see a menu but white in IE and I just upgraded my Chrome and now that is black. I fixed this by making the following change in Google Chrome.

Settings, Show Advanced Settings (bottom of the page) scroll down to System and UNcheck "Use hardware acceleration when available". Restart Chrome and as soon as I did that it appeared in the Window Capture.

Let me know if that works.

I just had this problem recently, but I posted my thread in the wrong subforum in my haste. This seemed to fix my immediate problem.

Do you know why this happens? Is there a way to capture Chrome with hardware acceleration with OBS Studio?

Made an account just so I could reply that Adrien Schofields fix for the black screen was spot on! Turning off hardware acceleration in chrome solved the issue! Only 5 hours of my life gone but thanks! (Note: Running on Windows 10, using chrome on windows capture)

Dude, made an account just so I could reply. You are like the best person right now, cleared the issue right up. But if you, or anyone else, might have the reason as to why this happens in the first place, maybe the issue might have another workaround?

I also just made this account to say this worked for me. Thanks!

Also created an account just to thank Adrian.
Thank you so much dude!
I never use Google Chrome, but I tested it out beforehand and it was doing the same thing,
Just a black screen on every single web browser.
I actually use Opera which is slightly similar to Google Chrome so thankfully it had similar settings.
I was able to get Opera and Google Chrome working so seriously thank you so much.
9 times out of 10, I may not have figured this out without you. <3xoxoxoxx
