Question / Help Black bars on output

So i'm very new to OBS and when I thought i set it up (what i thought was) correctly. i started recording. on the screen i see that the red border is around everything all fine and dandy, but once I've finished recording i watch it and see that there are two black bars either side about an inch wide. please help. This is for OBS STUDIO. i'm also having trouble with getting my mic and desktop audio to work. tracks are confusing

What do you have your base Resolution and your Output Resolution set to on the Settings, Video tab.

1600x900 on both. yes, thats the resolution of my screen :(
