Question / Help Best way to compress recordings?

I record videos from gaming tournaments essentially back to back to back, encoded using NVENC, but the file size seems to be way larger than necessary. Even the last file that was recorded during my last stream wound up as 1.41GB for a 16 minute, 51 second mp4 file. I don't know how low I can set the bitrate without compromizing video quality, but I also thought that there would be some amount of file compression after the recording was finished. Should I reduce the bitrate or should I be looking to compress the files after recording?

Change the rate control to CQP, and set the CQP number to 14.

If you need to recompress, use handbrake set to CRF 14 and veryslow preset.

isn't 14 a really high (low?) number for CQP? The bitrate and file size would still be large and I'm not sure the video I'm recording would benefit from the quality, especially after being uploaded to Youtube

Perhaps it is, and you can experiment with the range of 23 through 14 to get a quality target you like.
