Question / Help Best Video Resolution?

Hey, I'm new to OBS and struggling to find the best resolution to get the max quality.
I'm wanting to record gameplay and with my webcam up in the corner in the best resolution and quality possible to then be uploaded to YouTube.
So OBS will be capturing my game, my webcam reduced to a small size in the top left corner, game audio and my microphone.

I've attached an image of what layout I want, just with better quality. Plus photos of my current settings.

My Setup
Monitor:
Acer XG270HU 27inch - 144Hz - 2560x1440 - Gaming Monitor - TN Panel - FreeSync - 1ms
Graphics Card: GeForce GTX 1070Ti
CPU: Ryzen 7 Core 2700 4.10GHz
Motherboard: X470 Aorus Ultra Gaming AMD X479 DDR4 ATX
Memory: Team Group Dark T-Force 16gb (2x8gb) 3000MHz
Webcam: Logitech C922 Pro Stream Webcam
Microphone: Blue Microphone Snowball

I believe this should be able to record games pretty well.

Could anyone advise on the best settings so I can record gameplay at its best possible quality, I'd really appreciate it.
I've been playing around with resolutions and the only resolution that doesn't have a black box (even when manually adjusted) was 1920x1080. But when I checked the footage after, the quality didn't seem as good as it should be.

If it also isn't too much trouble, would someone also be able to suggest the best settings for when I wish to stream to Twitch with the same format? (Webcam in corner, gameplay filling screen.)

Thank you in-advance!

record at your native resolution, so 2560x1440 in your case. Base canvas and output have to be set to 2560x1440 for that.

I have tried this and tried it again. It still doesn't fit correctly and has fairly wide black areas either side. Even when setting the game to fit the screen, that doesn't help either unfortunately. I appreciate your help anyway and if you have another resolution to try then please let me know.

I've attached screenshots confirming the above - 3rd image shows the position after I selected 'Fit To Screen'
