Question / Help Best OBS settings for my system

Hello, this is my first post so be gentle :P

I would like to record 1080p30fps videos (Not interested currently in streaming).

I was wondering what would be the best to use with my current rig, x264 or Hardware (AMD) or AMD VCE?

My system specs are
Ryzen 1600
16GB 3000MHz RAM
R9 290 Vapor-X
And a nice 250GB to save recordings to.

I would mostly record games such as Minecraft (With shaders), GTA V, Overwatch and Cities Skylines.

If you could provide me with detailed settings I'd be more than happy.

Many thanks,
Thron

The main advantage Hardware AMD (or NVidia or QS for that matter) has over x264 is that x264 eats up a lot of CPU power while Hardware Encoding has negligable impact on CPU. x264 is superior for low bitrates though. In your case, stick to CQP hardware AMD at around 20 (but play with that value to see how high you can go, but anything over 25 will probably not be visible to the naked eye).

Could you tell me what do you mean by "20"? I am fairly new to using OBS and not familiar with what you are refering to :P

The 20 is the parameter QP and tells the encoder how close you want the final video to be to the original. The higher it is the bigger your file will be and the more you'll strain your Harddrive (in size as well as in bitrate).
