What's the best encoder for recording gameplay with my MBP?

Apple VT H264 Hardware Encoder
Apple VT H264 Software Encoder
CPU only seems to take up around 1.8% when currently using X264 (don't know if that matters?)
I'm currently getting the odd video where the movement stutters at 60fps, so wondered if a change of encoder may help?
