Question / Help Basic setting for Recording

Hi!
What are good basic settings for recording from:
1) a cable hd tv?
2) a VHS player?
I'm with a i5 5200U 2.2GHz CPU, 8GB Memory, adapter Intel(R) HD Graphics 5500 (notebook Asus) and EZCAP 284 Video Capture Card, on Windows 10.

Record directly to the device and transfer the file over later. Don't record with this device to your PC because it uses USB 2.0, which is too slow to allow it to work well.

About capture on VHS player, recording directly doesn't work.
On this case, what could be good basic settings for starting?
