Question / Help Basic OBS Studio Setup Help

Hi all, I've been fiddling around with OBS studio for a while now and can't seem to get it to work quite how I want it. I've been messing with plenty of settings but I can't really find a guide for any recent version of OBS (I'm running the latest.) I want to be able to strictly record gameplay at 720-1080p at a minimum of 30 frames per second. Whenever I actually achieve this with the settings in a game (War Thunder for example), the video is incredibly blurry and pixelated, which is strange considering I have it set to record at 1080p. I don't really experience much in-game slowdown, and my specs are as follows:

Intel i5 4460
AMD R9 290
1 TB Hybrid SSD/HDD (7200rpm)
Windows 8

What would be the settings you would recommend to get some basic gameplay recorded (not streamed)?

Settings - Output
Output mode: Simple
Recording Quality: Indistinguishable
Encoder: Software low cpu use or hardware qsv
