Question / Help Base canvas quality degradation and adjusting with capture card

Hi all!

Thank you in advance for reading this and providing any help in order for me to understanding this concept. I'll try to keep the queries concise. I did ask this in the Discord, but the questions were rolling pretty fast so I didn't quite understand the full answer/reason behind the answer.

I have a 4k monitor and a 1080p Elgato capture card (60 S) for when I play PS4. I also use StreamElements for my notifications etc. on Twitch. My base canvas is presently 1080p and I output at 720p when streaming.

I understand my base canvas should be the same as my primary resolution (usually 4k), but due to the capture card and existing StreamElements setup, it would be a heckofalot more convenient to keep my base at 1080p!

Am I okay to leave my base at 1080p or am I likely introducing artifacts and other garbage due to how my setup is? If it is causing issues, why? It's hard for me to tell because I am streaming at a generally low bandwidth so I can grow my audience--also I'm a bit of a perfectionist I suppose; I want the best setup possible.

Should I just make different profiles for 1080p and 4k depending on if I play PC games or PS4 games?

Appreciate it if you've read this far! :)

The canvas resolution should be the size of your largest source.
You can use different profiles and/or scene collections.
