Question / Help Base Canvas for 3440x1440 monitor

Hi All,

I have a single 3440x1440 monitor. In the video settings, the base (canvas) resolution seems to automatically set to 3440x1440 without any other options available. Because of this, when trying to set up and stream/record sources that are 1920x1080, there is a large section of black space along the right and bottom of the recording.

I have set the streaming resolution to rescale to 1280x720. This however just shrinks, and because of the aspect ration difference between my monitor and the rescale value, causes the stream to get screwed and stretched.

Is there any way around this? Or am I just missing something very obvious?

Thanks for the help!

You have a 21:9 format with that resolution. Most devices and monitors out there however have a 16:9 format.
This is the problem. You will live with it. Only people with monitors that support the 21:9 format will be able to watch it without black bars.

is there no way to force OBS to record only a 1920x1080 canvas? Does it have to record the same canvas size as the native resolution of the screen?

Nevermind, found out you can manually change the canvas size. Didn't think you could because there where no other options available in the dropdown
