Question / Help Bad recording quality despite high bitrate

The quality of my videos on OBS looks horrible no matter how high I raise my bitrate.
I currently have it on nvenc (new) at VBR with a bitrate 50,000 to 70,000. Despite that text in games still looks horrible and even worse in dark conditions. I also tried multiple rate controls and x264 with no noticable change or improvement. The video quality deteriorates MASSIVELY once it gets uploaded to youtube as well. Is it because I am recording at 900p? Or did I fuck up some setting?

For recording, VBR is not ideal for most scenarios. I recommend the following settings:

Run OBS as administrator.
Encoder: NVENC
Rate Control: CQP set somewhere between 16-23 (lower value = higher retained quality and larger filesize)
Preset: Quality
Lookahead and Psych Visual Tuning disabled

Youtube doesn't have a 900p quality setting so you will lose some quality due to conversion to 720p, usually in the form of a slight blur. Record at 1080p or 720p, with the best quality you can muster without encoding lag so youtube reencoding has the cleanest source possible.
