Question / Help Bad framerate in local recordings

I'm trying to record gameplay of Super Mario World (SNES emulator). While I'm recording, the game runs smoothly, and I experience no drops in framerate. I then export the video in mp4 format, and when I watch it, there are random lag spikes and frame drops that I did not experience when actually playing the game and recording. Does anyone know what's going on?

update to obs 0.14.2 and use 64bit version
1. enable vsync in snes emu if you can or try display capture
2. your cpu is probably too slow for x264. make sure you are using "x264 low cpu" option in simple output mode
install HWinfo, run it in sensor mode and record for 2-3 minutes. then check hwinfo max cpu usage. if its 90-100% then you need faster pc or try option 3
3. try using VCE encoder in gpu, simple mode suggested
