Question / Help AV adapter problems for live streaming

Hi,

I'm with Just Crush Sports. We have an account with DaCast, and we're trying to live stream sporting events on DaCast via OBS Studio. However, when we plug our USB-to-AV adapter to the camcorder, nothing pops up when we try to import a video capture device.

Can you help?

What's your USB to AV adapter? Does it display as a camera to other applications that use cameras (say, for example, Skype?)

We plug the USB into the laptop. And then there are three plugs: red, yellow, and white (these are the male-to-male connectors). We plug those in, and then we plug in the AV adapter into the Canon Vixia.

As of yesterday, when we plugged the AV adapter into OBS Studio, it only picked up the webcam. It didn't mention Skype...just Integrated Webcam.

That's... not really helpful. Without knowing the manufacturer of the adapter it's hard to know if you have the required drivers.

I'm not asking about looking for a Skype source in OBS.

I mean, if you open Skype and try to choose a camera with this adapter connected and the Vixia on, does Skype see this as an option for video, or just the integrated webcam?

If Skype doesn't see it, OBS won't either, and it's likely that either that adapter needs a driver you don't have installed, or doesn't actually do what you want. Some camera adapters are made just for importing recorded footage from a camera's storage and aren't intended for providing live video.
