Auto configuration wizard: discouraging start

OOBS

New Member
Today I wanted to start using OBS. However, the first screen is very confusing and discouraging. There's three options in the (default) dark layout, marked by white bullets. But...does white mean it is checked, or does black mean it is checked? I want to record videos for youtube and am totally not interested in streaming (in my opinion 'live' broadcasting of video). Then I need to choose, virtual camera? I have no idea what a virtual camera is, but this is not explained. The bullet also behave partly that checking one means unchecking another. When I go to setting another way of checking is used. Why this silly layout? Please come to your senses: enter understandable check boxes and explain what a virtual camera is.

They are radio buttons, not checkboxes. That means that you can only select one option. The black filled-in circle means it is the selected option. If you just want to record videos for YouTube, select the "Optimize just for recording, I will not be streaming" option.

The virtual camera allows you to treat your OBS output as if it were a webcam so that you can use it in programs like Zoom.

There is always a learning curve with a new program. This is not a microsoft program with millions in budgets behind it. This is a lot of generous people putting time and effort into a program that you can use for free. I spend a part of my time budget looking at the forum entries to learn about this program for problems, solutions and suggestions to improve my use. So welcome to the group.
