Question / Help Audio works for TS files but not MP4

Hello,

I recently made the jump from classic OBS and I'm having a weird audio issue. When saving to a .mp4 file, there is no audio. The green bar for "Desktop Audio" goes up and down with the sound, but there is no audio in the file. I changed the file format to .mov, and the same issue occured.

However, I tried changing the file format to .ts. I made NO other changes in the settings, and the audio worked just fine. I could hear it in the recording.

I have my desktop audio outputting to Track 1 and its bitrate is 128 kbps. The Log Analyzer claims that I don't have a complete log file, but I found this in the log:

20:42:40.410: Loading module: coreaudio-encoder.dll
20:42:40.410: [CoreAudio encoder]: Failed loading library 'CoreAudioToolbox.dll'
20:42:40.410: [CoreAudio encoder]: Couldn't load CoreAudio AAC encoder

This looks like it has something to do with the audio, but I can't figure out the problem. I want to stick to .mp4 files for compatibility with other software.

Try playing the files back in a program like VLC or MPC-HC. The log analyzer doesn't work with Studio logs yet.

Hm, audio seems to come when playing it in VLC. I also copied it to my old MacBook and it works in QuickTime player. However it doesn't work in Movie Maker (the editing program I use).

I actually figured that if I switch to "Custom Output (FFmpeg)" in the Recording settings, the audio plays fine in the Windows 10 Media Player. I would use this method but I can't seem to change to Variable Bitrate in the Custom Output settings. Also, there's no option to use the Nvidia NVENC encoder.

Still having this problem in 0.14.1. The audio does not play in Media Player, Movies & TV, or Movie Maker.

The problem is with the programs you're loading the video files into, not OBS. You said it worked fine in VLC and QuickTime, that should tell you that it's working fine.
