Audio randomly stops during streaming

I am using OBS for live-streaming through Subsplash. Everything works great - except our audio will randomly cut out during a stream. We are running from a ATEM ISO Extreme into OBS. I have set OBS audio for the BlackMagic device and it all works great - until the audio meter just drops to nothing and we lose sound. The only fix we have found is to quickly enter settings, switch to Desktop audio, then switch back to the custom BlackMagic setting. Then it comes right back up and sound is perfect again - for a while. It will shut down between 0 and 20 times during an hour live stream. We are not switching mics or making any audio transitions at all. Just a guy sitting on a stool teaching. Any ideas?

Are you feeding a hardware encoder from OBS's fullscreen projector for video, and OBS's Monitor for audio? That Monitor is known to have some problems, but an instant stop is new. The solution, though, sounds familiar. What if you just blink the mute button instead of completely reconfiguring?

At any rate, can you set up OBS to stream directly, without the hardware encoder at all? If so, does that fix it?
