Audio issue capture card (muffled/low level)

Has anyone else experienced this problem with audio, I've been through 2 capture cards (cheap usb dongle style) , 2 cables and different devices (switch and ps5) and the audio still sounds like its muffled/distant, only bass coming through, occasionally here sounds at higher end but only briefly. Been through multiple settings and still struggling. Any advice appreciated.

Can you post a recording? A complete tour of the signal path would be helpful too, and all of the settings that it hits along the way.

Sorry for the short video clip but hopefully this will give you an idea of what im hearing. Tried switch and ps5 and the audio sounds the same from both.

Signal path goes from hdmi switch dock into hdmi input on capture card, then usb into the laptop. Video Capture device USB selected on OBS then audio selected to digital audio interface USB Audio. Monitoring and capture on also.

Okay. I'm not familiar with what it's supposed to sound like, so I can imagine that that *could* be right. No obvious distortion or cutting out.

That's not the entire signal path.
What does Windows do to it between the capture device and OBS?
What filters does OBS have on it?

What does every individual thing in the entire chain do to the signal? Go from from the game software itself to the speakers, counting every painstakingly detailed thing that there is or might be. (good motivation to avoid a Rube Goldberg rig too)

For context, I built this rig:
That's 100% pure analog except for the hard drive recorder on the far right side.

I'm looking for a complete, unbroken signal path through your rig, just like I can trace a complete, unbroken signal path through mine. Digital audio is harder to trace than analog, but to find the sort of problem that you have, you kinda have to.
