Audio from recorded video file plays fine from speakers, but not HDMI-out?

Hi, I've been using OBS to record old video tapes and footage from video games though a capture device(HDMI to USB). Works great, except when I hook up my computer to a TV with an HDMI cable, and try to play the videos on it. I don't get any sound during playback, except for a popping sound that occurs whenever I skip around in the video.

The audio seems fine when playing through a standard headphone jack (both when listening on headphones and using external speakers), though I still get the popping noise when skipping around. It's the same thing when playing on my phone is well; audio is fine but the sound pops whenever I skip in the playback.

I've tried both VLC Media Player, Media Player Classic, and the app on my phone and gotten the same results, so I don't think it's an issue with the playback software. I've recorded in both both MP4 and MKV formats and the result is exactly the same.

My recording settings are "high quality, medium file size" for quality, and my encoder is set to "Hardware (QSV)". And I did set the audio input capture to "monitor and output" so I can listen as I record. Are there any settings that I need to change?

Sorry if this is an issue that's already been solved; I tried searching the forums but couldn't find any threads with the same issue. Thanks!
