Question / Help Audio capture on mac not working

Hi there - I am a newbie and I am aware this is probably a FAQ but I have looked at all the threads on here and can't get help.

Basically my problem is that I am not managing to capture audio coming from my Mac soundcard and send it to Obs Studio.

Background: I am wanting to do a DJ live set, using ableton Live, playing sound over my Edirol FA 101 soundcard, which is still working perfectly.

I don't need to send video, just audio.

I have installed IShowU audio and created an aggregate device like it says in the instructions elsewhere on this site. I have set all the sound settings as prescribed

But when I play audio, nothing is showing up in the OBS studio input monitor. I think I should be seeing signal in the audio mixer, but there is nothing.

Is there any source for troubleshooting, or any further advice available, anywhere?

thanks

Yes, thank you, but as I said in my original post, I have followed those instructions meticulously, but to no avail. No audio is coming through to OBS.

A few notes:

Firewire audio is famously buggy with OBS;

OBS is a stereo/surround program that doesn't natively know how to deal with multichannel devices. If it works, you'd likely only get channels 1 and 2; and if you're not using all channels, OBS may not think 1+2 are the same channels you do.

iShowU is only for desktop audio, so that would be for audio Ableton sends to a MacOS internal sound device. OBS can't capture those directly, so iShowU creates a virtual one, and OBS can capture that.

If Ableton is sending its output to your firewire device... OBS can't see that at all. You may be able to use software like Rogue Amoeba's LoopBack to do manual channel routing and create a virtual device that captures input from that device into your Mac, but I am not aware if it could capture anything sent to it by Ableton.

Thanks! Loopback should work but it is extremely expensive.

I am going to try doing it with sound being sent to my Mac's Built in Output & route it to iShowU from there.

Just an update: try as I might, I could not get OBS to play with my Ableton output, even if things were routed from Built-in-Output.

But I was able to get it to work on Mixlr.

Since I don't need a video feed, I'm just going to go with Mixlr for now.

thanks!

I followed these directs as well and everything seems to be working fine EXCEPT my keyboard volume buttons no longer work. I can't mute/decrease/increase system volume (YouTube videos I'm watching, etc.). Any ideas what I did or how to fix? Attached is the image I now see when pressing any of the three volume control buttons.

Nevermind. I figured out that I have to back to System Preferences-> Sound, and change the output back to Internal Speakers.

I’m looking for some help with loopback. I sprung for it but I’m getting monitoring audio and output audio from traktor layered as one audio into obs. I wasn’t able to get my aggregated devices through macs audio midi setup so I sprung for loopback but I can’t seem to route it right or find any info on how to do it. Any help would be great folks.

Hi - I have been feeding the audio direct into OBS Studio 25.0.8 via minijack for my DJ sets on my iMac using macOS High Sierra 10.13.6 - I am wanting to switch to using a MacBook pro which is a couple of months old on Cataline 10.15.7 - I cant get the audio to feed directly into OBS. I have seen other posts saying you need a second program for OBS to pick up the audio but find it weird my old mac did this successfully without a second program. Can anyone help pls?
