Audio capture issues....probably user error. Hoping more experienced users can lend a helping hand.

First off, I am new to OBS and streaming in general. I have streamed here and there and exclusively through my consoles (PS4/XB1X) so capturing audio wasn't an issue. I now want to stream from my Macbook pro, mainly retro games and the occasional movie night. I don't have a "proper" set up meaning I have just the Pro with no second display. I am of course actively saving up to get a PC and a couple monitors to use along with my Pro but I am hoping I can make do with what I have for now.
The problem I am having is that because I have just the Pro and one screen I can't display capture because the display captures itself and you see that "telescoping" effect. Which leaves me, it seems, with window capturing and as far as the researching I have done. OBS captures audio per device not per window. I am open to advice on how to address that as best I can, maybe someone know a work around so I can display capture with the one screen but without the "telescoping" effect.
More importantly, I am looking for advice on how to capture audio in window capture. I know how to build scenes, add images or other media and know the difference between audio input and output capture. The problem I am having is that when I did some test recordings there is no audio. No audio from mic or from the game/movie. I am aware of virtual audio cables but dont know how to set that up, even after watching some videos on it. Is there a way to capture window audio that is more simplistic than the Virtual cables? Do I need to add multiple capture sources in my scenes for the mic, and the window being captured? Would attaching speakers to my Pro help ( speaker not built in to my Pro)? Would using my phone be an option and a second display so I can display capture? Any and all advice on these questions is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for any help offered.
