Audio and video out of sync - advice

Hi everyone, first post here. This has probably come up before but I'm not sure how to approach it in my situation.

I'm setting up a livestream where I play live music along with backing track videos I have made. The videos include both audio and video of me playing the instrument parts that I'm playing along with live.

When I add a VLC video playlist, there is a big variation in how closely the audio and video sync up. Sometimes the audio is one or more seconds ahead of the video, sometimes it's the opposite. It's so far out of sync that someone watching can't make the connection between what's being played and what they're hearing.

Sometimes if I'm lucky the audio and video are almost perfectly in sync. When I started playing the video playlist a few minutes ago the audio was only slightly ahead of the video. If I can get it there consistently that's close enough. Then when I navigated to a different point in that same video, it went way out of sync to where the video was more than a second ahead of the audio.

Does anyone have any advice on how to get the audio and video more consistently in sync? Is this more doable using a direct window capture of VLC media player instead of OBS's VLC playlist feature which is super convenient?

System specs:

iMac Retina 5K 27-inch, 2017
4.2 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7
64 GB 2400 MHz DDR4
Radeon Pro 575 4 GB graphics
Big Sur 11.6

CPU & Memory usage:
With OBS Studio, VLC and Logic Pro X running, CPU usage is at 70% (system 20% / user 50%), memory at 34 GB used (cached files 15 GB), and this is before I start broadcasting.

I was also wondering if getting a current MacBook Pro would make a difference with the sync issues?

Thanks so much for any feedback or suggestions
