I have read quite a few guides and responses on the forums and other locations and believe I have my settings setup correctly, but I still get a pretty awful looking result on the stream side of things.

System Specs:
(Laptop)
i7-4790K
32GB Ram
GTX 980m 8gb

Down: 165mbps
Up: 5mbps

Hi Violator,

What are your stream settings? Can you give us an example of your stream quality? And what is it exactly you're trying to achieve as a goal for your stream: clear looking picture? smooth framerate? a little of both?

For myself i'm always looking to get a crisp image with as little "pixelization" as possible during fast movement gameplay. Here's an example of my stream: http://www.twitch.tv/venom3099/v/20189641

OBS settings to get those results are:
ENCODER - 3500 kbps bitrate, variable bitrate, FAST Cpu Encoding, HIGH profile
VIDEO - Input resolution: 1920 x 1080, Output resolution: 1280 x 720, Downscale filter: Lancoz, Framerate 60fps

720p60 at 2000 Kbps will indeed look awful for most games. Try streaming at 30 FPS instead. If you absolutely must have 60 FPS then you can try raising your bitrate (will make it more likely that some viewers get playback buffering) or downscale to a lower resolution. Depending on the game you're playing and how hard your CPU is working you can also try bumping you your x264 preset to faster or fast.
