Question / Help Aspect Ratios

I have just installed OBS and I have to say I very impressed. It actually works!
I say this because I have tried a handful of such things and they all have shortcomings or don't work at all.

One little query....

I have the capture device connected to my Sky+HD box. I recorded a small file in .mp4. No probs...

The picture displayed on the OBS screen is about 14:9 ratio. This I assume is correct as the TV will automatically restore it to 16:9.

But... when I cast the recorded file back to the TV, it's still in 14:9 (with black bars at the sides).
I have three options in the TV aspect ratios options - none of which alters anything.

I may be being a bit dim, but I can'y figure out how to get round this.

Any help greatly appreciated.

You probably added the device as "Video capture device" source. If you use the default settings of that source, the device driver chooses some resolution. In your case, this seems some 14:9 aspect ratio resolution.
To correct, open the properties of the video capture device source and explicitly choose a 16:9 resolution. And make sure this matches your canvas and output resolution of OBS (Settings->Video). So nothing will be stretched or distorted or resized - just recorded verbatim what is read from the device.

Thanks for the reply.....

The problem seems to have cured itself. I have just done a test recording and its fine.

Another question though......

I am using a capture device connected to the RCA sockets of my Sat receiver. Am I right in thinking these sockets output a standard definition signal. I say this as I edited the file and when exporting the edited section it seems the resolution is 720x480. The program I was recording is in HD.
