Question / Help ASIO source is not at proper levels as a normal source?

I have my DAW (0db headroom) set for ASIO I can hear it but its levels are totally wrong but if I use my SPDIF 'what you hear' output as a mic source. have zero issues with levels.

yes this is 5.1 output if you were wondering why so many bars...

Any ideas why I would need to use such a hack method to get the audio to properly output?
