Can I take a HD input and have OBS turn it into 4k as it records it to disk?

Or any device that can do this before going into OBS that will up res the HD to 4K to be recorded into OBS?

Thanks

Technically yes (Settings -> Video, and put the actual dimensions of 4k in the Output (Scaled) Resolution), but you're not adding anything meaningful. So why use the extra data?

I have a black Magic green screen hardware device that works fantastic but it only takes and uses HD video in and then out. I was using just HD but we are moving to shooting everything in 4k now. All our current out door footage is 4k and second camera in studio over head down is 4k not going into the green screen device. The Black magic device is super clean for green keys and takes very little light on the green background to get a perfect key even showing transparency on items like looking into a glass it will key it out.

As I said above, you're not adding any data. You're losing some by going from 4k to HD, and you don't get it back. So why go back to the bigger size?

In a similar vein, if a major part of your production is still at the lower resolution, why is anything else bigger than that? The lowest common denominator tends to win here, unless you're okay with the quality varying throughout your final product.

If you want to stay in 4k, is there an updated version of the green screen gear that does the same thing in 4k?
