Question / Help Any way to recover MP4 recording that never hit "stop recording"

Hi there,

I recorded a long web broadcast the other day. It ended an hour earlier than I expected and my screen shut off. I unlocked it and immediately windows updates took over and restart the system. OBS was running at the time and the recording was still going. My work has it set up to record to MP4 (I know, not a great idea) and the file now won't open. I have tried doing a "convert" in VLC but it doesn't do anything.

Does anyone know of any way to recover this file? All the recording is there it just never had the STOP RECORDING button pressed. I'd really appreciate any ideas!

There isn't. The recording is toast.

This is why its strongly suggested to never save to MP4.

Ok I figured as much, I warned them that this may happen as well. Definitely no more mp4 recordings! Thanks for the replies.
