Problem:
Every time I alt-tab out of a game, whether running full-screen, windowed or borderless windowed, when I return to the game, either the capture is just a black screen or it's stuck on showing the last image captured before I alt-tabbed. It stops capturing the game.
It started out of nowhere (see "Variable" note below) and I've never had this issue until now.
I've attempted every solution, every work-around, from capturing foreground window in OBS with hotkey, to capturing the window instead of the .exe to capturing to capturing any full-screen application... everything.
Games such as Borderlands 2, Grim Dawn, Path of Exile, Hard Reset and DOOM are fine.
Games such as Dying Light, Saints Row 3 and many others are not.
The situation is killing my channel on Twitch at the moment.
Variable:
Everything was absolutely fine until after I went from a 1080 monitor to a 1440p/144Hz monitor and a GTX 1080 from a GTX 980 (I downscale to 720p in OBS).
Absolutely no other changes on/to my system have been made.
I'm using OBS Studio 0.15.4 and was running the previous version (which I was using initially when the problems started, so I updated) which was absolutely fine until the hardware switch.
I've tried every possible setting and variation there-of in OBS and in-game and there are games it's just happening with and I'm unable to fix the issue. Everything was fine roughly two weeks ago (had to take a roughly two week break from streaming for personal reasons).
I need a resolve ASAP if someone is able to help.
If it has something to do with my current monitor's resolution, I'm unsure as to what to at that point.

- However, it's not happening with all games.

- Could the 1440p/resolution monitor be causing a "conflict" which is causing the issue?
