View attachment 29657 View attachment 29658 View attachment 29659 So i got the "already running" bug everyone is talking about. Here's my issue, I simply tried to uninstall and wipe all the files. uninstalled from my programs list just fine. went to delete the remaining folders, says they cant be deleted because the files are open in another program. tried just to re-download obs but it wont let me because it says its already open. i literally dont know what i am suppose to do. I have seen changes using "-multi" to simply disable the error message, but i dont think i have those files available because i already did the uninstall. the photos display the only remaining files, all of which seem to be jibberish, nothing close to what ive seen in other posts displaying coding fixes.

Sorry to re-hash this but this is the most recent thread about this problem. How did you fix it? I read thru another thread from last year that sounded like they found a fix by changing some binaries and stuff or what not because of a browser source bug? The thread said they had a fix coming in version 17.0.1 or what not but a later post said it was version 18 and no fix had been implemented. My OBS Studio was not showing my webcam or my game capture, and when I tried to click properties for either it would lock up OBS. Then I uninstalled and went to reinstall but got the message that OBS was already running. So I found the OBS running in Task Manager in background process, 2 processes. I ended those and was able to install OBS Studio. Tried to open and could not cause it was running in background again. Shut down processes, and tried to restart OBS, same thing. Then I shutdown computer and restarted, and tried opening OBS first thing and it didn't work. Tried a few more times of shutting down background process and restarting OBS with no luck. I tried to create a file dump and when it gave me the "path" of where it was saved it's saved to a location on my laptop that I can not find.

Any help is much appreciated.

EDIT just found another way to get my log? Not sure if that's the same thing as the DUMP

*FIX* I plugged in the Elgato Capture Card, started obs and it came up fine. Unplugged the Elgato and it's still working fine.

I am getting this error. I have uninstalled, removed every file I could find, and reinstalled twice. Is capturing a game video supposed to be this frustrating? Can anyone help with this?

I am experiencing the same thing, I installed it and uninstalled it then reinstalled it and still it says another instance of obs is running and it's not in task manager, so where do I find it to open or close it. This is time consuming. They say it's free, but if I donate it will probably work properly.

SOLVE POSSIBLY: had this issue as well, so, I went into stream settings and took out the key and changed server applied and closed out of settings, started a stream with bad info, of course, it didn't work; quit OBS in the menu, restarted OBS, changed the setting for stream Key back to working key, saved and started the stream, went as normal. for me it worked, hopefully, this helps, btw. MacBook Pro/Catalina/current obs

I was actually able to troubleshoot this. When I was trying to download OBS for the first time, I had the same error. I was able to find out that you had to turn on a security setting to download it because the computer cannot tell if OBS is malicious software. Or that's what I think. How to find out what's wrong.

Instructions
First, you need to go to that little ^ that's by the time on your desktop and click on "Windows Security".
Then click on "App & Browser Control"
Make sure you activate the protection
And you should be able to use OBS.

I solved it! Maybe. It seems like this error can occur in multiple ways, so there are most likely multiple solutions. Since OBS said it was already running but it clearly wasn't, I thought "Is it running in the backround?" Lo and behold, when I went into Task Manager, scrolled through the background processes right below apps, I found OBS. Upon right-clicking and ending the task, the error was fixed. This is most likely what @SlimJimmy5252 meant when they said they found their solution in Task Manager. Hope this helps!

SOLVED: I had the same problem and it was because I had checked "minimize to system tray when started" in the "General - System Tray" section of the settings (v27.2.4).

I think I did the same thing but idk how to locate that and uncheck it. Could you let me know where you went and fixed it cos I cant open it to uncheck that?

GUYS THIS WAS SUCH A PROBLEM FOR ME UNTIL I FIGURED IT OUT.
1*First, you go to Task Manager.
2*Then, you click on Stream Labs in the "Apps" section.
3*It should have a drop down bar and you click "obs64"
4*You then hit end task and it is FIXED!
Your welcome!
