Able to Record Video but not Audio

So audio is my weakest area... you are warned... but in case you don't get another better , response:
Uh, have you checked that the camcorder is outputting audio over the RCA connection? Do you have audio level turned up on camcorder?
to test, what I'd do is hook up camcorder to a TV and see if video and audio working as expected.
If yes, then that capture device is possible culprit.
Next step would be to see if Windows getting audio .. With Windows 10, audio has lots more settings, and add-in audio software (Realtek and others) can cause unexpected behavior. lots of threads where is mis-configured Windows settings, including Privacy related causing audio input issues
Once you know audio getting to Windows, then work within OBS to 'hear' the audio

I have a very similar problem. I am using a video capture card with "pass-thru'" to capture live TV. I did get it recording sound but when I set it up again a few days later I seem to have no sound. Input is HDMI and it no longer shows levels for any audio. I have tried all the settings I can but I have no way of determining if the input HDMI is actually sending audio!!
Is there some kind of utility that I could use to check that out?

Thank you for your response, Lawrence_SoCal. I checked audio from camcorder and it is working. I'll check Windows settings as you suggested and then if that doesn't resolve the problem I'll work within OBS. Thanks again.

OKAY, Found EarTrumpet. Downloaded it and it shows no input sound. Plugged headphones into Foscomax and no sound, plugged in mic and... no sound! EarTrumpet seems to show all other sounds correctly so i think the capture card is defective - sending it back and I'll try again.

The second unit seems to work fine but OBS didn't pick up the Video!! So I put the 1st unit back in and everything is working!!!!?? SO the problem seems to be with the OBS software. At least I have learnt to use the Virtual Camera to check the picture and EarTrumpet to check the sound thanks to folk on this forum. I can't figure out why OBS is not consistent, if I find anything else I will come back and post results. It has been working perfectly since yesterday, we'll see how it goes.
